Student FAQ: Online Classes

How do I access my class?
Your classes are listed in the left sidebar of matconline.matc.net under My Courses.

How will I be graded?
There are due dates regularly and consistently; your course is not self-paced. You could:

  • uploaded files
  • online quizzes
  • discussion forum participation
  • reflections papers, essays, blog posts
  • demonstrations
  • projects or products

In addition, each 16-week online course requires at least two face-to-face proctored assessments. 8-week course require one proctor. See more about this below.

What is a proctored assessment?
A proctor is simply a person who monitors you as you complete an assessment. In some cases, this person will be your instructor. If not your instructor, you will be responsible for making an appointment with a proctor.

The college has a testing center on campus at the Learning Resource Center—see contact info below.

How do instructors take attendance?
Students must complete minimum requirements within the first 5 business days to stay in the course, or they will be administratively dropped. You must:

  1. Log in. (Instructors can track your online activity.)
  2. Read the syllabus and all policies. Pass the Virtual Learning Center Policies online quiz.
  3. Complete all required instructor-designed assignments for that first week (for example, post a welcome message in the forum or take a quiz on Chapter 1).
